Improv and Stand-Up Comedy help students discover their best selves building self confidence, creative writing, critical thinking and public speaking. We offer weekly classes Winter, Spring and Fall, plus Summer Camps. We also have teachers at schools, camps and community centers on weekends and after school. Each session starts with Improvisation, playing games that are a ton of fun while teaching valuable life skills. These are the same games we play with corporate groups to develop better leaders, team building, sales, service etc. For our public sessions we include Stand-Up Comedy, taking stories of experience and observation, then crafting original comedy routines. Each session ends with a performance showcase of original and improvised comedy skits completely created by the students. The classes and workshops integrate perfectly with cultural arts, language arts and character building/guidance programming.

In every Improv workshop I leave students with two messages
1) You have homework. (groans) Every morning before even getting out of bed, start the day with a smile. You know how you smile when someone else makes you feel good. Turns out it works both ways. Physically forcing a smile can make you feel better. You physically squeeze out the juice in our face that make you feel good. I know, it sounds gross, but it works. AND when you walk into a room with a smile, most people smile back. There will always be that one that say “Why are they smiling? What’s wrong with them.” That person will judge you no matter what you do so let’s just ignore that person. When you wait for the world to make you happy it will disappoint every time. When you set out to make the world smile, simply by leading by example, rewards flood your way.

2) Every time you get on stage, or read in class, public speaking gets easier. Every time you let your fear win, hiding in the shadows gets easier as well. Push that comfort zone just a little bit every day and see that fear become manageable, eventually maybe even disappear. Having the fear is beyond normal. But letting the fear control you leads to many missed opportunities.

Playing Improv games develops public speaking and self confidence. Fear of public speaking is #1 in the world, more that fear of death itself. THIS alone is the most important way we attack the Bully problem. A confidence person will less likely become a bully OR victim. Bullies seek out easy targets. They rarely take on a confidence individual. However, bullies themselves are most often overcompensating for their own insecurities.  So by teaching self confidence we eliminate BOTH trends. By becoming confidence public speakers and over coming social anxieties of one on one interactions we empower individuals to ask when they need help.

Laughing Devil Comedy Festival Now in its seventh year, The Laughing Devil Comedy Festival seeks to honor and reward the artists that most personify The Art of Comedy. The brainchild of Steve Hofstetter, the Laughing Devil Comedy Festival features a 48-comedian first round followed by four semi-final, quarter-final, and finals shows. Comedy industry from all over the US and Canada will participate to help find, expose, and give work to some of today’s top emerging comedians. 48 comedians are chosen to compete. In the quarter-finals, they each perform two five-minute sets. 16 of those move on to the semi-finals, where they each perform one eight-minute set. 8 move on to the finals, where they each perform one eight-minute set. Material can not be repeated from round to round. By the finals, comedians will have performed 4 times, and 26 minutes. This is not an easy festival to win! Mike Vecchione – Born in Youngstown, Ohio and raised Italian American and Catholic. My father was involved in a family business and my mother was/is an elementary school teacher. As a family, we moved back and forth between northeast Ohio and South Florida throughout my childhood. Started playing contact football at age 9 in Florida and wrestling at age 13 in Ohio. My senior year of high school I placed second in the Florida AAA State Tournament and went on to college at Pennsylvania State University where I wrestled in 1991-1992 and tutored student athletes. Moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1995 with my bachelors degree in criminal justice. Began work counseling adjudicated teens and children with mental health issues. Started teaching special education in the Philadelphia School District in 1998. Received my masters in Special Education in 2001 from Cabrini College and continued to teach in both public school and residential school settings. Started stand up comedy in 2000 and moved to New York City in 2003. Was the 1983 and 1984 Spelling Bee runner up at Pine Grove Elementary School. I failed to advance to the national bee in Washington D.C. because of the complexity of the word roothless, which I still spell with two o’s.

The laughs are non-stop when the cast of LMAO (a division of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH) takes the stage. 4-5 comics create original music and skits on the spot using topics provided by the audience. No two shows are ever the same. Many of you may end up on stage as part of the action so COME BE A PART OF THE SHOW!!!

Since 2002 the show has wowed over 5000 audiences in Times Square and touring nation wide to theaters, clubs, colleges, universities, corporate events and even k-12 / family events.

In addition to great fun entertainment the troupe is busy providing educational outreach, via its public classes, corporate team building sessions, leadership training for college and high school programs, and k-12 student programs at schools, camps and community centers.

When not performing/teaching  with EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH and its various programs, Walter has appeared on TV (Late Night with David Letterman, Royal Pains, Blue Bloods, MTV, Friends of the People, NICK Naked Brothers Band, etc), Theater (off broadway, national tours of broadway shows, regional theaters) and stand up comedy.
